Description

This course examines a number of texts (novels, autobiographies and a film) that deal with the experience of confinement in prisons, asylums, the suburbs, concentration camps, class, gender and the home. The texts will be considered within a framework of contemporary theories of confinement and will generate discussion regarding the efficacy, ethics, history and future of these various practices of internment.
